Buy a Caravan

can you buy a caravan on a campsite and make money on it as a holiday base ?

I have a small amount of money to invest & I am thinking of buying a caravan / statick mobile home. Does anyone also do the same thing and make an income from renting it out to holidaymakers while the caravan is sited on a caravan park. Is there a website or company who deals with this kind of system of renting caravans ?

1. The main thing to think of when starting such a venture is the changeovers, ie preparing the caravan for the next renters, if you don`t live near the camp you will have to pay someone to do it, which will cut into your profits. Some camps may offer the service, for a fee. Just type caravans to rent into search there is a load of info.
2. I done that about 5 years back and yes it takes you to clean and check the caravan between guests as they are on holiday and hygiene is out the window with the mess some people leave, then getting the keys to and from them? I lived 25 minutes drive away and that was too far as we were called at 7 one morning because they left the fire on and had run out of gas. You decide. Alright if it's family(close) only.
3. it will depend on the site as to whether you can sub-let or not. most just allow close family to use a private van. think about it, if you do this on a recognised site then you are taking money away from the owners as they will have their own vans for rent as well. the other two answers are good ones but don,t mention insurance. its standard to have a £2 million (yes million) insurance for private use never mind public liability which you would need for a hire van there are a lot of static vans for sale all over the country but again most sites will only let you on if you buy a van from them and they will tell you no sub letting.
